Veterans Education & Training Supporting Those Who Served

The Barber & Beauty Institute of New York (BBINY) proudly supports veterans and service members who are transitioning into civilian careers. We recognize the discipline, dedication, and leadership that veterans bring to the workforce, and we are committed to providing training opportunities that help translate those strengths into successful careers in the barbering profession.

Barbering is a respected skilled trade that offers veterans the opportunity to build a stable career, work independently, and even become business owners within their communities.

A Program Designed for Veterans

BBINY is proud to offer a barber training program approved for veterans seeking to use their earned education benefits while preparing for licensure and career opportunities in the barbering profession.

The Barber Operator Program has been specifically designed and approved for veteran training through the appropriate veteran education authorities. The program provides a structured pathway for veterans to develop professional barbering skills while preparing for the New York State Barber Licensing Examination.

Through professional instruction and hands-on training, veterans gain the knowledge and practical experience necessary to enter the barbering profession with confidence.

Barber & Beauty Institute of New York
accepts all forms of the GI BILL®

USING YOUR GI BILL® FOR A CAREER IN BARBERING

At Barber & Beauty Institute of New York we care about our veterans. We pride ourselves on all of our students’ progression, as they become professional barbers.

The guiding principle of barbering education is that what we are providing is the necessary education to lead a life of pride, working in a sustainable, nearly recession-proof industry. So many of our students go on to live their dream of earning as a barber.

It is so much fun, and it is such an exciting challenge to help someone feel their best by providing them with the service or any other image enhancement that a client may desire.

The Post-9/11 GI Bill® allows veterans, with more than 90 days of service, to access up to 36 months of educational benefits. If you were discharged from the military and seek a new career, beauty and barber school might be right for you.

If you are the spouse or child of a service member who is serving on active duty, Title 10 orders in the paygrades of El-E5, 01-02, or WI-W2, you may be eligible for financial assistance from the Department of Defense for education, training, and/or the occupational license and credentials necessary for a portable career. If you are the spouse or child of a service member, you may be eligible for transfer of the service member’s Post-9/11 GI Bill® benefits to you.

To be eligible for education benefits, you must have 90 days of active duty service post-9/11 and still be on active duty, have been discharged with an injury related to military service after 30 days, or have an honorable discharge. To access the educational benefits, you must first opt in to the GI Bill®.

Under the Post-9/11 GI Bill®, veterans have 15 years to use their educational benefits. If you wait too long because you aren’t sure what you want to do, you could lose benefits. If you decide not to use your benefits, or use a portion of them, you may be able to transfer what’s left to your dependents.

You may be eligible for additional perks, such as a supplement for school supplies or a monthly housing allowance. The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs can answer any questions you have regarding GI Bill® benefits, application, or allowances.
