The Barber & Beauty Institute of New York (BBINY) is a New York State–licensed and nationally accredited career training institution dedicated to preparing students for professional success in the barbering and appearance enhancement industry. In 2026, BBINY proudly celebrates 20 years of continuous operation, marking two decades of licensed education, workforce development, and community impact.

Since opening its doors in 2006, BBINY has remained committed to providing structured, high-quality instruction that prepares students not only for licensure, but for long-term professional and entrepreneurial success.

Our History

BBINY was founded with a clear and focused vision: to create a professional training environment where individuals could learn the barbering craft through disciplined instruction, hands-on practice, and real-world preparation. What began as a commitment to elevate barber education has grown into a trusted institution serving students throughout New York and the surrounding region.

Over the past two decades, the Institute has trained and supported thousands of students on their path toward licensure and career advancement. Through consistent leadership, regulatory alignment, and a focus on student outcomes, BBINY has established itself as a respected institution within the barbering and career education community.

As the profession has evolved, BBINY has continued to adapt—expanding program offerings, incorporating hybrid instructional models, and strengthening partnerships that connect education to opportunity. Today, the Institute stands as both a training center and a pathway to professional growth, entrepreneurship, and economic mobility.

Founder & Leadership

Barber & Beauty Institute of New York was founded by Christopher D. Felder, an educator, industry professional, and school owner committed to advancing barber education through structure, discipline, and opportunity. With decades of experience in barbering and career education, Mr. Felder established BBINY to create a licensed training institution that would prepare students not only for state board licensure, but for sustainable careers and business ownership.

He is joined by Cynthia Felder, Co-Founder, whose ongoing support and partnership have played an important role in the growth and stability of the institution. Together, their shared vision and leadership have guided BBINY’s development into a respected training provider serving students, community organizations, and workforce partners throughout the region.

Under their leadership, BBINY continues to operate with a focus on instructional quality, regulatory compliance, and long-term student success.

Our Mission

The mission of Barber & Beauty Institute of New York is to provide high-quality, licensed barber and beauty education that prepares students for state board licensure, employment, and long-term career success. Through structured curriculum, hands-on instruction, and professional mentorship, BBINY seeks to develop disciplined, skilled professionals who are prepared to contribute positively to the communities they serve.

Community & Workforce Partnerships

BBINY’s impact extends beyond the classroom. The Institute maintains active partnerships with local school districts, public agencies, and community organizations to expand access to career education and workforce development.

These partnerships include collaboration with the Roosevelt Union Free School District through a Barber Apprenticeship Program at Roosevelt High School, support of Veterans Affairs and local veterans’ organizations through annual Stand Down service initiatives, and ongoing service partnerships with United Cerebral Palsy of Nassau County.

Through these efforts, BBINY continues to connect education with service, workforce readiness, and community engagement.
